
On the stained glass bench, the iron has to grab heat fast and hold it steady. Tip sag or temperature drift? You end up with dull joints, uneven beads, and a pile of rework. We built this soldering heater to put repeatable heat right where the joint forms—so the work keeps moving, and the temperature doesn’t wander. The heart of it is a quartz-tube element running short-wave infrared. It comes up to operating temperature in seconds, so there’s no waiting between joints. You get 120 V or 240 V, 200–300 W, in a compact 150 mm length with standard terminals. The emitting face is sized for typical came and foil joints, so the thermal profile stays tight and you don’t cook the surrounding glass. This matters whether you’re on a single bench or running a production line. Heat stays localized, so the solder melts uniformly without driving thermal stress into the panel. Cycle time drops because the tool recovers between joints, and rejects fall because the joint looks the same on the first piece as on the hundredth. Energy use stays low because the heater is only on when you’re soldering, not idling all day. Installation is straightforward: mount the heater, wire it up, and set the controller. It’s designed as a drop-in replacement for common OEM modules, but double-check your iron’s mounting geometry and lead length before ordering. Treat the quartz element like what it is—brittle. Avoid impact, and keep it clean of flux residue. Run it at the rated voltage with a stable PID controller, and the output stays consistent over thousands of joints.
